An ancient civilizations is uprooted from their homes by the new ruler of the land

With nowhere to go, the people walk through the desert with the little belongings they had. After a few days they began to run low on supplies and everybody seems to be on their last legs. People are becoming desperate as they see their friends and family pass out from dehydration. The civilization dwindles down to their last hundred or so people when far off in the horizon they spot an oasis. The people left start running towards the oasis happy that they have been saved and can carry on the traditions of all they had to leave behind.

They were wrong. It was a mirage. They all died.
